The Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as Patron of the Children’s Book Council of Australia will visit Gold Creek School to celebrate Book Week.
Book Week is the longest running children’s festival in Australia, celebrating its 68th birthday in 2013. Book Week 2013 will run from Saturday 17 to Friday 23 August, and the theme is “Reading across the universe”.
Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians develop activities, offer competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.
We’re thrilled that the Governor-General has accepted an invitation to join the kindergarten classes at 9:10am on Friday 23 August for their Book Week activities. To celebrate the special day, students are encouraged to come to school dressed-up as their favourite book character. Parents of kindergarten children are welcome to participate in the Governor-General’s visit, which will include an informal morning tea catered for by the Senior Site hospitality students.
